Over the weekend we finally tried sitting Ans on the potty. I bought an insert and have been wanting to start this for a while, especially since she tells us from time to time when she's peed or pooped. Saturday, she said "poop poop", but hadn't, so we thought we'd give it a try. Nothing happened, but at least she didn't seem to mind sitting there :)

- We've stopped using the sleep sheep noise machine when Ans goes to bed. I guess she can hear us better from her crib now. There have been a few times (anywhere from 5-60 minutes) after putting her to bed that Jon has sneezed and over the monitor we hear "bless you".
- A few months ago she learned the word "lap." She now constantly asks that I come get on the floor so she can sit in my lap or just sit down there together. She crouches down in the middle of the living room, points to the ground and demands, "lap, lap lap!" Sometimes it's less bossy and more cute. For example, the day she tugged at my hand in the kitchen and said "lap" so that I'd sit and watch the rain with her by the sliding glass doors.
- In the mornings, when I change her diaper, she likes to name things on her nerdy baby science ABC's poster. It's normally objects like moon, star, fish, turtle (which is really a fruit fly, but she insists it's a turtle). After identifying something she wants me to repeat it or she will continue to say the word over and over. Last week she kept saying a word I couldn't make out... baxter? paddle?... then it hit me, fractal! Jon showed her that one a few nights before. She now can identify "fractal" on her poster :)
- Last night we were all sitting in the living room when Ansley picked up a tissue off the coffee table, blew her nose and tootled down the hall out of sight. From her room we heard a clink, she exclaimed, "Good job!" and then reappeared back in the living room looking very proud. She'd lifted the lid on her trash can and thrown her tissue away.

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday. Not too much to update on. At my last visit, the doctor said maybe she'd try to get an early guess of the sex, but I had a feeling that it might not happen. I was right. She instantly was able to get the heartbeat on the doppler, so an ultrasound wasn't necessary this time. She did say she could tell the little peanut was moving around a lot because of all the "whooshing" noises. I've been able to feel movements from time to time for a few weeks now and am looking forward to when they get more consistent. It seems like I "popped" out more this weekend (although still not obviously pregnant in loose clothing). It may be because I lost weight during the virus last week and then my body played catch up once I started eating normal again. Even so, I've only gained 2 pounds in the last four weeks (putting me at an overall gain of 4 pounds). The doctor threw it out there as something to keep track of. It's a little under average. I should gain about a pound a week at this point, but I'm sure it's just due to the few days of being sick. I guess this means I have free range at McDonald's from now on right? Just kidding :) My blood pressure was still low (yay!) 108/60 and all other stats looked good. Now I'm just counting down the next two weeks until the ultra sound where we'll find out if Ans is going to have a little brother or sister!
16 Week Bump
** 2/25 Update for my own memory purposes: Since this post I have felt a flurry of baby movement everyday. The first little "is that the baby moving?" blip was around 10 weeks. In the 16-17th week I began to feel the little plinks on a daily basis.

Most days Ansley is my little shadow, following me everywhere around the house. Yesterday morning she was really interested in my cleaning Allie's slobber off the sliding glass doors, so I decided to let her help. It was a hit! Who knew cleaning windows could be so much fun :)

When Ansley woke up from her nap yesterday she spent some time playing in the sandbox I made a few months ago. It hasn't had a lot of use due to the cold weather, but now that things are warming up I have a feeling she will be spending many hours there. I think I got the idea from Ohdeeoh, but it's just a big plastic storage bin, a bag of $5 play sand from Lowes and a few "toys" from around the house. Ansley loves it. You can see Jon's feet sticking out of the breeze way and Allie hiding under the bush in a few of the pictures. Even though they were all out there, tons of birds kept coming to our feeder only 10 feet away. It was a really relaxing afternoon.

Ah-doo (Aubrey) turns one this week and we had the privilege of celebrating her first year of life. I am so glad the weather is finally warming up. It was a beautiful day.
And just in case you didn't believe me when I said Ansley gave me a black eye here it is...

This week has been a rough one. Could you tell? I haven't posted since last Friday. Sunday unfortunately brought the start of a stomach virus for me. I'd hoped it would be the normal 24-48 hour run it's course through kind, but it wasn't until Thursday evening that I really felt better. I couldn't keep anything down from Sunday night to Tuesday. Wednesday I only ate Saltines and Gatorade. Ansley was wonderful through it all (and never caught anything, thank goodness!). Such a good girl, with the exception of accidentally smacking me in the face with my cell phone Monday morning. I now have a faint black eye. I was quite the attractive wife for Jon to come home to on Valentine's day... black eye, sick, still in my day old pjs :) Another silly thing about the day was Jon bought Ansley a Disney Princess Valentine's card that played music when opened. He was so excited to give it to her. But, the moment it started making noise, she dropped the card and said, "no, no no!" almost starting to cry. She wouldn't go near it after that. Oh well. Here are a few more cell phone pics from the last week or so...

So the whole daily picture posting thing hasn't really panned out :) And, the lessons have begun to say things like, "read your camera's manual about metering". I've realized I just don't have time to do this. Additionally, when I do have time, either during Ansley's nap or after she goes to bed, I generally don't feel up to it. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with the daily topics even if I don't take full advantage of the photography lesson.
#5 Love to Hate
I had a hard time coming up with something for Ans on this topic. Maybe her stinky diapers, but who wants to see a picture of that. Instead, I'll show you one of the downsides to pet ownership. This is Allie's favorite place to lay in the living room:
After a few weeks of sitting there every day the wall begins to look like this:
We love Allie dearly, but I really don't like having to constantly scrub down her favorite napping spots around the house.
#6 What They Love
This changes all the time, but recently she had a thing about her shoes. She carries them from room to room, piles them into her stroller and pushes it around, even stashes a few in her little backpack before putting it on.
#8 Gift From The Heart
I wasn't really sure what to do for this one either since it's supposed to be of what they give. She likes to hand us stuff from her play kitchen :) But, the greatest gift she gives is the joy that comes from watching her grow into a happy and energetic little girl. We are so lucky to be her parents!

I signed up for a daily photo assignment thing online that runs the whole month of February. Hopefully I'll make it every day, but I signed up late so had to do some catching up. Here's the website: the joy of LOVE and my three missed days plus today's assignment.
#1 What They Do
Listening to some tunes in the car. As soon as we get in she screams "NIIIIIC", for music. If it's not a song she wants to hear she keeps yelling. If it's deemed acceptable to her taste though, some hand bouncing or shoulder shimmies begin. (We are sitting in a parking spot here btw. Don't worry, I wasn't taking pictures while driving.)
#2 How They Look
A balloon kept her fairly entertained as I tried to take some pictures without the flash by the sliding glass doors. After a while though, she became interested in the camera and tried grabbing at it. The close up is actually while she was playing with the flash, flipping it up and down as I snapped a few pictures.
#3 Then and Now
The 2 week old hand picture is actually better. It was taken late morning with the sun coming in through our bedroom windows. The 18 1/2 month pic was at night with our ceiling fan light and the angle makes her hand look bigger than it actually is. Plus, it was hard to get her to hold Jon's finger. She finally figured it out and held still for a few seconds. We told her what a good job she did and she started smiling, very proud of herself.
